There was a time when you couldn’t turn on your local music station without seeing Craig Mack’s mug. The guy seemed to be everywhere.
Here he is at Queen & John with some of the other bad boy fam. Peep the ice grill at about 0:20.

Toronto Legend, DJ X - ‘93 Abstract Mix
Here’s the first audio installment of TheMeaningOfDope; a mix from Toronto Hip-Hop Legend, DJ X (dj/host of 88.1’s The Powermove Show).
This is the shit we used to keep tapes on pause/record for to catch that song that you may never hear on the radio again. I love the cohesiveness of the mix, matching the vibes rather than playing what may have been the most popular records of that time. This type of shit is what made Saturday afternoon’s spent in front of an AM/FM radio and early Saturday evenings spent in downtown Toronto hunting mixtapes so dope.
He drops some “brand new Super Cat and Mary J. Blige” as well as the instrumental of “Deeper”, one of my favorite tunes of all time, right at the end.
(More from Bo$$ in the near future)
Download the full mix here
Big shout to David Dacks for hooking this up.
Cypress Hill on Saturday Night Live performing “I aint goin out like that”.
I really don’t remember anyone EVER smoking a joint openly on the SNL stage. Only Cypress Hill…
It looks like DJ Muggs destroys the bongo set at the end off camera. Why you gotta go do that Muggs?
It was Wio-K, LC, and Ce-Mo that made up the Toronto rap group M.V.P. I think this might have been there only time together on Much performing.
In the first video, watch them perform the track “Trilogy”. Then they drop a little freestlye in the second clip.
Gang Starr doin the damn thing.
Premier is one of those DJs that actually “DJs” during these type of performances. Gotta love the on the fly clean edits and the way he drops the youngstaz sample before the track.
Peace to Doug!
O.K people, I had to drop a serious gem this time. You really can’t talk about hip hop in Toronto without mentioning the name Ron Nelson.
These two clips are from when he appeared on Much. Follow Ron on his journey through “the most historic house in North York Willowdale”. Look out carefully for Thrust in the cut.
Big shout to Doug on the footage!
Stop the violence! Check out these two clips of brawls breaking out on stage.
The first video is from the Jack The Rapper conference. Mad Lion made a quick cameo on stage during the boot camp performance this night. He just starts to go off when, out of nowhere, comes this other dude that has a voice that resembles Milk Dee. He starts rhyming right over him, so Lion tries to grab the mic from him then shit pops off. I’m still trying to make sense of this one, I can’t figure who the guy is or why he decided to do that? Anyway, it makes for an entertaining video.
Video number two is Redman at the Russell Simmons Phat Jam. Redman was pissed off during his whole performance, something must have set him off before the show. Not to mention he came on after Onyx, who turned the whole show into a raging testosterone fest, something was bound to happen. The rest you can see for yourself.
At least homegirls in the front row were having a good time…
Here is another RapMania gem, courtesy of DJ LAW.
Cool J starts off with one of his more underrated joints “Illegal Search” (the b side for jingling baby). Then he tears the place down with the legendary Marley Marl remix.
Say what you want about LL Cool J, but this dude was nice.
Here’s an interview with big Dru Ha and Buckshot of the boot camp clik.
*Rock, we see you grilling in the background.
