My homie Andy hit me up with this dope Ice Cube piece that was done for, what looks like, 60 Minutes. This was done right before the classic AMW album.

They go pretty deep in this segment, Cube takes us in the studio as well as his old hood in South Central, even a lil concert footage.

Is that 2pac at 1:01??

We get a nice alt first verse from the voice cracking A Plus and those backup dancers are doin it.

“It’s like walking pneumonia”

LONS inbetween videos talk about their stage show, how their energy is like a huge ball and that they make people break out in a dancing fever.

Don’t close it early, there’s some crazy concert footage at the end of the segment of them doing “My Ding-A-Ling” live.

The GOAT At The Grammy’s

I love the 80’s man. Troop suits, fat rope chains, Kangol bucket hats. Everything about it was amazing, look at the set on stage, the wierd zombie looking guy that introduces Cool J, rhyming over the vocal versions, doing jump kicks on stage (02:33). This stuff is gold.

Wacth LL Cool J peform “I’m Bad” live on the Grammy’s.

Judging by the crowd, not everyone was sold on HipHop at this time, but you know the Pointer Sisters were on board.

Peace to the homie Craig over at RLT

*This actually isnt the Grammys. It is the AMA’s. Thanks to G. Breezy for bringing this to my attention. My bad.

Was there anyone angrier and more political than Cube on his first 3 solo releases?  I mean, excluding Paris and Chuck D because those are just too obvious.  It seems relevant since Cube is about to make a return into music and I have had the privilege of hearing an advance copy of his album and seeing him in concert within the last 12 months.  I believe him 100% that he’s an mc first and he is just pimping Hollywood for this paper.  He’s still got some spit in him and there’s a couple tracks on that album I really liked.

It’s too bad he got the brunt of one of the best dis tracks of all time because that will forever be in my mind despite his thorough career and discography.

3 of 3. The final part of the Common Sense drunk on Rap City talking about Resurrection and where his head was at in 1995. You can tell he was tispy when he has a “moment” with the host, Oliver at the end of the clip. One of those, this seemed way cooler when I was wasted kind of experiences. Sober, serious, Gap commerical Com would probably hollywood his way through that interview today and end it with a plug for his new flick.

And just for good measure, here’s audio of the song that’s been inspiring all my titles for this 3 part video. Sum Shit I Wrote from my favourite Com Sense album, Resurrection.

More Hit Squad yall…

More of the Williamsburg Bridge interview conducted by the one and only Fab 5 Freddy. Das EFX talks about getting ready for the tour that can be seen below. Freddy has a nice jock riding moment at 02:05.

The second video is my favorite part cause it’s mainly Redman. He talks about the funk and some of his inspirations including Roger Troutman (R.I.P.). The interview ends when hollywood Solo has to take off to a photo shoot.

The Hit Squad Tour Video Pt 1

This is definitely one of the illest clips I’ve ever seen. First off, EPMD talking about what they saw in Das Efx before signing them and why they have so much confidence in them. Then, interview footage with Das Efx and a super fidgety but silent Redman in the house.

The real gem here is all the concert footage. Das’s stage show looks very thorough from the looks of it. This show was in Buffalo in 1992 from what I can gather, and the crowd is not only gigantic but VERY amped. Can you imagine a bunch of girls getting down to the Pete Rock Jussumen Remix in a club today? Damn. That and the cross section of hip-hop fashion at the time. Mad rugbys, denim jackets, timbos, etc were in full effect.

Toronto and Buffalo are in such close proximity that tons of us used to just roll there for our gear shopping and the occasional arena show. Lots of these acts never made it North of the border so i’m glad that Rap City made the trek down to cover this show since a tour of this kind with all of these acts would never happen again. Maybe at Rock The Bells, but there’s no way that the crowds will have the same kind of energy and I highly doubt Das Efx will ever start their show emerging from life sized sewer grates on stage.
