Ill shit! Since when did Conan O’ Brien have rap performances? Especially a very amped Tip, Phife, and Ali? They perform Oh My God on his little stage and come off, their back and forth shit in the chorus, their backups for each other..flawless. Phife gets away with “anti batty-bwoy” as well, guess the networks weren’t up on their patois..haha.

In light of the recent Juan Epstein podcast(no more drama pls, guys..get over it) interview with Tip, I had a reinforced view on something. Tip has my favourite voice in rap music, EVER. So much fucking charisma even when dude is just talking shit or making fun of somebody. How many dudes sound that much like themselves off mic as they do on mic? Amazing.

    You are the first person to say it besides me and I am so happy you did. Tips voice is MY favorite voice in rap music, PERIOD. I been sayin that shit for years. Nobody else sounds like that on the mike and off. His charisma is a good way to describe it, but there is something else about the tonality in his voice that nobody else in early 90’s hip hop had. What is funny is I always thought Magoo from Timbaland and Magoo was always tryin to sound like Tip haha. Both have the same kind of voice. Today cats like Wale and Lupe are tryin to sound like that too i think. Nice post.

    and yeah, Tip has one of the best voices, but I think Mos Def can give him a run for his money (not saying better, but pretty much all the characteristics you highlighted as being great about Tip apply to Mos also)

    Conan always has rappers on his show. He had Gang Starr on a couple of times. But yeah, that was tight.
