Bless the Mic with the Gods

Holy crap, it’s Rakim. Some absolutely scarce footy here with Rakim in concert at one of Toronto’s legendary venues. Anyone else notice that he always rocked over vocal versions? I can’t recall seeing any performance footy from this era where Rakim isn’t rhyming over the actual track. Hmmm.
Either way, enjoy as Eric B. actually talks and Rakim drops science inbetween concert footage.

He only stopped rapping over vocal version recently right? Certainly every live review up until I stopped noticing always mentioned it. You can’t even blame it on Eric B being such a shit DJ because he did it after Eric. Boo. Rapping in a chair isn’t too hot either. All praises due and all that for the recorded work though, bless the mic and the gods and whatnot. I’m gonna have to play Casualties of War on reapeat and say Hail Marys now.

I don’t know what’s up with that. Ra did the same thing when he came to London in 98/99. The show was dope but that semi lip-sync thing is upsetting! Ra saved himself a little by getting on the wheels to cut the isht outta Funk Inc’s - ‘Kool Is Back’.
I think me and only 1 one other dude managed to sneak video cameras in there. One day when I find the tape I’ll share it with the world…. Is it REALLY 20 years since Follow The Leader? WOW!!!!!!!!!

I saw Eric B. & Rakim on the Follow the Leader Tour in Richmond, Va back in the day. He was yelling over records back then too.

I have some Rap City footage of Eric B & Rakim from I think 87 when they were in Montreal. I’ll send it over..
