Shadowboxing When I Heard You On The Radio

Oh, 90’s Rap fashion! How I’ve missed you. Thanks hipsters and sneaker/hypebeast kids for bringing this ridiculous printed and neon shit back into fashion. Thankfully, I haven’t seen anyone at a party rocking airbrushed overalls without a shirt yet and let’s hope it stays that way..unless of course, my man J.R. Ewing kits one of his youngins out in it for promo purposes.
This performance of Mama Said Knock You Out on Arsenio has too much going on! My eyes dart from LL’s floppy teal mushroom hat to the dancers and their matching short sets to the dj cutting but not making a sound. Wow. Who’s idea was that slow video effect? I’m thinking the same guy who decided to use this faux strobe in the Black Sheep video I threw up before.
Seriously though, LL was just on fire here. The lyrics for this song, the video, his whole image and steez at that time on some veteran but still young and hungry and ready to throw down against anyone. Boxing and that aspect of his bravado just mirrored his braggadocio-laced lyrics.

Fuck it, this album was so crazy, I have to go in on LL Cool J in 1990. Every single from this album crushed the radio, video, house party, clubs(all-ages word up!) and yellow sony sports walkmans everywhere. Boomin system, mama said knock you out, to da break of dawn, 6 minutes of pleasure, illegal search, eat em up l chill, and around the way girl were ALL ON THE SAME ALBUM?
I understand why joe budden seemed so incensed when questioning likkle charles on his LL opinion. Every album he put out had some tracks that were so hard and you know Todd could probably do it today if that’s what was driving him creatively. Truly an icon for multiple generations, with massive success commerically in both music and acting. Not to mention that his steez in the 80’s was on fire, despite claims made on unkut and again to the contrary.
This isn’t the only LL video I have right now, and thank you Sean for this one and the upcoming joints as well.
