Part 3 of 5 and this is my favourite so far.  Rae really shows what made the Clan be so revered and respected by their fans, their attitude.  He’s describing what is someone’s marketing plan for 2009.  Be accessible and honest, treat your fans with respect like you would treat anyone else in your life.  This clip just really resonates with me, and it’s really no surprise that Rae is still just as relevant today as he ever was.  Here’s hoping that OBFCL2 actually comes out, because the game needs it right now.

1991 TV Special hosted by comedian Paul Rodriguez in San Quentin Prison. I find a few factors totally amazing; first, Ice is right in the belly of the beast with nothing between him and the inmates, second, he heads down into the crowd and proceeds to run across the tables the inmates are sitting at and finally, how I find this performance very entertaining. I am interested in hearing your thoughts when you watch this, the prison throws a different dynamic on the regular live performance.

Part 2 of 5 of the infamous Raekwon in front of the O.B.F.C.L. wall ad.  Here, Rae speaks on his previous life problems and how happy he is to be in the rap game and successful.  I don’t think it’s possible for him to not use obscure, crazy analogies when trying to make a point.  “I ain’t tryna mix drinks”? Dude is on some shit.

Parts 3-5 coming soon.

It was always rare to see Arsenio’s musical guests get a full interview. Either their first choice bailed on them at the last minute or Arsenio really had love for Queen Latifah and Heavy D.

Heavy gives his thoughts on the Grammy awards and plugs his Blue Funk album. Here we are 18 years later and the Grammy’s are still trying to gain some rap credibility.

This is one of those interviews that we always talked about at themeaningofdope like a mythical creature or an old friend we hadn’t seen in years.  We knew it existed, but had no idea when or how we would see it again.  BAM! Here it is.

The infamous Raekwon in front of the ad for his album interview, finally.  This is part 1 of 5 and Rae is basically breaking down why each clan member had their own style and they never expected or asked anyone to change to fit the group dynamic.

Was anyone fucking with Rae and Ghost in terms of gear at this point?  Those dudes always had the crispy ‘Lo pieces in mad colours, the Snow Beach is obviously what everyone remembers but Rae is not exactly slacking right here.  That almost looks like a Polo Sport crewneck, but it’s hard to tell.

Commercials and rappers. The big debate. Is it selling out or making some ends? KRS-1 preached on this and then flipped and did his own commercials for Sprite, Nike and more. You make the call here. So in honor of the Super Bowl ads here are some old school commercials for you.

I remember this performance. I also remember wondering a) why does Rosie Perez call him Vedman, and b) WTF does homie have in his napsack?

a few guesses:

1) a gigantic bag of boom (obviously)

2)an extra pair of timbs.

3) a shitload of “Whut?? Thee Album” promo items for the next convention (see The Show for more info on exactly how real Reggie keeps it)

4) Kleenex for his nasal issues (see Nov. 94 Source cover )

5) Phillie Blunt’s, chump.

Witness the Funkadelic Devil tear apart the In Living Colour stage on some “jump up and ready to fuck shit up now shit” with “Blow Ya Mind”.

Damn, do I ever want one of those Rush Associated Labels shirts right about now….

BTW: Tommy Davidson is NOT feeling Redman (see 1:22 into the clip)

Big shout to House on the footage
