Does the name David Faustino sound familiar? If you are up on your Married With Children game you would know that is our lil homie Bud Bundy. Well, in the early 90s he went all hiphop on us and did a video under the name D’LIL. I cant find an official release for this track anywhere, so this video could be pretty rare.
But people, please watch this video all the way through. If you can actually manage to go the whole way with a straight face, there is something seriously wrong with you. His third verse almost had me in tears. Enjoy.
This clip goes out to my homie Bryan. I know this definitely goes down as one of his all time favorite Arsenio moments.
Right before the beginning of his MONSTER rookie year in the league, Chris Webber droped in to Arsenio to celebrate his #1 pick. Then, out of nowhere, Naughty By Nature comes out of the audience and they kick some verses. Classic moment right here.
In the realm of NBA players, Chris Webber had a lil lil bit of talent on the MIC.
So now the question… best baller/rapper? Are we really gonna have to give the title to Shaq Deisel?
After almost a 5 year hiatus, EPMD was “Back In Business” with “Da Joint”. It was never really the comeback that anyone hoped for. Aside from “Richter Scale” this was probably the best cut off that album.
This one goes out to a select few, one of whom I have no idea how to get in touch with so let me just put it all out there. I was trying really hard to be a rapper and the first dude I met who was nice with the spit was this cat Duane Hope who went to school with my homie, Rain. Duane’s older brother had been rapping for a while and he played the mentor role for all of us. Saturdays used to be filled with rhyme sessions at my house, so many funny memories of the early days of me rapping and saying all kinds of shit I didn’t do.
Duane went on to attend Woburn in Scarborough(he lived in deep Scarborough anyways) and I remember the big hip-hop related news from his first week was that he went to school with one of the guys from MVP.
For those of you who don’t know MVP, here’s the little bit of history I have on them. They were one of the original groups out of Toronto in the early 90’s and also affiliated with the crew later formed and known as Monolith. C-Mo, LC, and Wio-K were definitely ahead of their time in terms of lyrics, approach and originality. In case you’re new to this, but that name Wio-K sounds familiar..you heard him on Kardinal’s ‘Ol Time Killin’ a few years back and his new song is getting decent run on Much Vibe these days.
This performance is of a song I’ve never heard outside of here, not even on a demo battle on the Powermove or Masterplan shows. From what I can tell, it’s called “Who’s Got The Juice” but if anyone else knows for sure, please post up in the comments. Big up to Big C, Wio-K, Hardkore aka Kory Deez, Nish Raawks, San Cear, Snidely Whiplash, Planet Pea, Sweets Watson, Heller, Rain and Duane Hope and his brother Dex(wherever you guys are?)..I know all of you will appreciate this rare footage.
This clip comes from a promo tape duckdown had out, it includes Black Moons first appearance on Yo! MTV Raps as well as some home video of Buckshot dropping a freestyle.
Clip #2 is a rap city interview where Buckshot talks about how Black Moon represents hip hop. You can find the rest of the interview here and here
This goes out to all those Craig Mack fans out there.
Life after “Project: Funk Da World” wasn’t too kind to MC EZ. So lets celebrate how he was livin in 94. Here is a full length interview with the funkalicious fat funk flav, Craig Mack. He and Oliver(your boy, Be!) sit and discuss how he got his start in the game, life skills, and important decisions. One question, why did Mastermind end up in the background of so many of these interviews? He obviously isn’t Craig Mack’s Dj, and they don’t ask him anything, so wtf is he doing there?
Oliver is definitely feeling that Craig Mack freestyle, but I think there are countless more awkward moments by him so I won’t highlight every single one. Feel free to post up your favourite in the comments.
I was at this concert in 1994. Craig Mack had no material out yet except for Flava In Your Ear, so his set was extra short. Which was fine because the crowd only wanted to see Tribe anyways. I know that clip makes it seem like everyone was hype for his set, but that was not the case. After he did his single, he meandered through another verse or something and then asked the crowd if they wanted to hear the remix to Flava In Your Ear. I have never heard that many people say NO in unison before, it was classic. He basically got booed off stage after he didn’t listen and still performed a remix to the joint he had just done 5 minutes before.
There’s the ticket stub for all you fellow archivists and nerds alike. Enjoy the rest of the videos.
