Say what you want bout the Fuschnickens, but they had some alright joints back in the day. No one ever stuck them with the Greatest Rappers Alive title but a couple tunes were catchy. Here is when they visited the Yo! set. Um…I am a bit confused when Ed asks Moc who his influences are and he acted like he had no idea, didn’t Ed ask him last? Did he need more time to think bout it? Anyway, Fu had a unique niche on the early 90’s hip hop landscape and did after all, go gold.

Pieces of Yo! Pt 3

This is the second post of clips from last years Yo! Mtv Raps month. This one includes a Fab 5 Freddy montage, the Ed Lover Dance, the first NWA interview on the flat bed truck and other memorable moments. This stuff not only takes me back but shed a tear realizing what has happened to hip hop today.

KRS-One is like the Babe Ruth of Hip Hop. He is interesting to listen to, even if you don’t agree with him. His music is slammin. And for sure, his performances are off the hook. All the new jacks need to take a step back and learn something from Kris. Watching clips like this makes me miss the old school….

Together Here’s What We’ve Gotta Do

Around the way girl status J-Lo gives the assist for the intro on this joint, which barely gets cut off which we all know is the exception to the rule with In Living Colour videos.  Too bad she calls it Straightenin Out.

This clip gives us another fine example of 90’s fashion. Pete Rock has the grandfather chic going on with his pants up above his belly button and tucked in button-up, but I can’t front on the hat.  CL, well…I don’t even know what to say except that was actually considered cool at this point.

What I’m most impressed(bored) by is how Pete Rock kicks the intro to the song almost exactly how it was on record. Improvisation is clearly not his strong point.

Finally, I might catch a lot of hate for this comment, but does anyone ACTUALLY like CL Smooth as a rapper? I listen back and I have no clue WTF he is talking about.

Pharcyde visits Ed & Dre in this video clip, one of the days during a week long The Brand New Heavies sit in. Ed has the boys freestyle leaving a lot to be desired. Thank yous are in order for the video break so Slim Kid could regroup for his spittin session. But, as usual they are all animated making for an interesting visit. Props to the furry green Kangol Fat Lip is sportin.

Tuesday at Sharkey’s Part 1

Salt-N-Pepa’s Tuesday Nights at Sharkey’s. Sounds pretty serious. Looks like tons of East Coast stars are in the house. Clip is Fab 5 hitting the pool hall to get he 411 on a ton of the major rappers just hangin out. I love the fact that no one is acting too good to be there, no one is trying to be harder than the next guy. I can’t picture today’s artists acting almost camera shy. Makes me miss the old school. This clip here also includes Black Moon, which was posted here as well. Redman acting hard=funny ish.

Wow so much going on in this one. Whether is is James Worthy playing the Bowser from Sha Na Na role. Or all the sunglasses, from Blue Blockers, I see some aviators in there, the blue hair wrap-arounds, the Lakers covered them all here. And then Magic is the only one not wearing a pair? Alcinder was too good to make it to the video shoot? Yes, in case you were wondering, Pat Riley is one baddddd dude. This is the World Champion 1987 LA Lakers anti-drug song and video.

Pieces of Yo! Pt 2

I don’t remember the date last year or the exact month, but at some point in 2008 Mtv Jams aired what I believe was a full month of a Yo! Mtv Raps pseudo celebration. They had TONS of videos and a hodge podge of clips from over the years. I recorded a ton of hours of videos and they were interlaced with the a fore mentioned clips. I have compiled a ton of these into 2 small videos. Here we have the first of those clips which includes some Yo! bloopers, the Ladies of Rap, Wu-Yang and More.

Late Night Chubb

Must be the week for gaff’s. See T-Money from earlier this week. Arsenio mistakenly credits vocals on Michael Jackson’s Jam to the Chubbster. Along with a condensed life story Chubb also lays out a live version of Just the 2 of Us as they go to commercial, which is hella nice. Just an FYI, I edited out the monologue so this is 2 clips spliced together.

Live Fridays - Too $hort

Todd Shaw visits the Yo! set in the clip. He breaks down the whole Too $hort history. It comes complete with a “I Wanna Be Free” live performance. Everything presented here is pre-dental work & pre-micro sized cell phones. Ed even felt the need to prop the Left Coast with the Raiders shirt. Get the popcorn and sodas ready as this clip clocks in at over 9:30.
