This is going out to my man Matthew Africa that commented on the Too Short post here. The APG Crew is outta the Bay Area. This came from the PBS Documentary “Rap City Rhapsody”. I somehow was able to scramble down the steps and throw a VHS tape in the VCR and kick my dad off of his tv, when this aired. I only missed the first 2 minutes of this doc. I am so happy to have it digitized now, I can’t believe that I never wore the tape out with as much as I watched it. To all our west coast readers, give us the 411 on APG Crew.

Thank you thank you thank you! I saw that when it aired on KQED back in the day and have been trying to track it down just about ever since.

I wish I knew enough about APG to tell their story. I don’t think they really come off particularly well in the “Rap City Rhapsody” but they were a great group and really slept-on. Bustthefacts has posted their two albums and both are worth hearing, as is the Mello Mar/J-Cutt 12″.

Mello Mar and producer Taj Mahal are both still around. Mar released a solo CD in 2006 and Taj has been involved in a lot of $hort’s releases.
