The Dopeness of Sports : Wilt Chamberlain

In the 80’s the Lakers and the Celtics were the 2 premier NBA teams, with one or the other winning 8 of the 10 championships in that decade. In the 1985 series, The LA Lakers won and here at half time of game 5, Wilt Chamberlain stops by at halftime to give Brent Musburger his take on the state of the NBA, his career, Kareem’s performance and his 6′ 8″ grandma. I tell you what if he would have just put a shirt on instead of wearing a muscle shirt, he could have been a half decent announcer. Bold, opinionated and brutally honest, Wilt calls it like he sees it.

Let me start off by apologizing for our watermark across KRS-1’s face for the majority of the video. We are working on getting an alternate watermark to place near the bottom. But, non the less, I still wanted to share this video, because it shows Kris having almost a self deprecating side as he jokes along with D-Nice. They spend the time trying to take credit for each other’s songs. Makes you realize how instrumental D-Nice was to BDP. Look for the LL slam via the teacher.

New York metal, hip-hop, reggae group put this song on the Street Fighter II Soundtrack. These guys are pretty talented. Not to mention playing live instruments these guys have opened for KRS-One. Upon their breakup, the band members went a wide array of different directions; christian rapper, Big Daddy Kane producer, The Who tribute band. They were on Epic Records and only had one album, “Playin’ Foolz”.

Too $hort gets his gold record for Born To Mack. Freaky Tales back in the day just left my jaw droppin. I couldn’t believe someone could be so vulgar on wax. But, you know what? I kept buying those Too $hort tapes. I like this clip because my fascination with collecting gold and platinum records check a few from the collection below:

Found some more montage clips that were aired as Yo! would go to commercial. First one shows some guests that had been on the show, only difference is that these guests were the originators, i.e. Harry Belefonte, James Brown, Quincy Jones etc. That clips is spliced together with one title “Rap’s New Generation”. WOW look at the names on that list. Below is Ice-T speaking on experiences regarding the 5-0.

KRS-One is well regarded as having the illest live shows. Taking it from Jack of Spades to My Philosophy wrapping this clip up with I’m Still #1. For all you new jacks out there, you do realize that The Blastmaster was married to that thing floating around sharing the spotlight on stage with him right? Extra kudos for the sound system that allows Kris to be audible & also for there not being 27 guys on stage each one with a mic.

Showbiz & AG are one of the all time most underrated groups in hip hop history of all time. Hosting Rap City, they talk about coming up in the game. They talk about the dynamic they have as a group with Andre writing the rhymes and Show producing. The stuttering frame rate and black & white video are a bit annoying, but I can’t complain as Show & AG video is hard to come by.

Here, 2 questions that have been on everyone’s minds for years are finally answered: DJ Jazzy Jeff talks about how he and the Fresh Prince got their start. Then, Will talks about his feelings on being a role model.

Was Cube a flip flopper before his current life stage? Talkin about his role model growing up. O’Shea also tell Dee Barnes about how he views rap music and it’s role in the Afro American community. I found the green screen in the back a bit annoying, I guess that was their attempt at cutting edge effects back then.

Here is the 4th installment of my commercial series. This one doesn’t have as much to do with hip hop as the others. But, as we all know sports has a lot to do with the hip hop culture as well. First up is Scotty Pippen and Prince Be of PM Dawn in a Nike commercial. And is that white boy passing the ball, Dan Marjele?

Next I have an ancient commercial from 1978 promoting Atari. Features Pete Rose, Pele & Mr. Roper himself.

This one has bad quality but still cracks me up none the less. Have you seen a bigger group of homers?

Final one here is a commercial for Chuck D’s ill fated clothing line-Rapp Style. Look for the T-Money cameo.
