Chuck D is a bit pre-occupied autographing posters promoting Fear of A Black Planet. Yet, he still has some time to get deep and drops some knowledge on rap music and people who are too ignorant to pay attention to it.
It’s been a long time…I shouldn’t have left you. Wussup yall, it’s your homie JC. I’ve been gone for a hot minute, but now I’m back. I have to give a big shout to the man House for holding things down here, ultimate props. With that being said, lets get back to the program…
“When I come through, hit y’all with the one-two”
It’s 1999, at this point Busta Rhymes has continued to put out hot singles and game changing music videos. He has also started to prove that his stage performance is one of the best, don’t believe me? Check this video.
He splits the set between “Gimme Some More” and one of Swizz Beatz first ever productions “Tear The Roof Off”.
Enjoy…
BDP livin up to the production part of their name. Here KRS and D-Nice are running the show as Latifah and Lyte lay down some vocals for what I figure has to be the H.E.A.L. album Civilization Vs. Technology.
In 1992 the Movie Trespass came out starring Ice Cube & Ice-T. The title was originally was Looters. Here on The Day in Rock the duo talk about the change in title of the movie and also what you can expect from the film. The soundtrack for this flick was actually pretty decent. And the Ice’s re-recorded the title track due to the name change. Below is the original version called Looters.
Kool Moe Dee goes into everything about him and his career to this point. From touring, to his trademark glass, to the Self Destruction Movement. He also delves into some deeper topics such as censorship & black history and importance of all people learning the truth. He lets you bend the ropes to know where his head is/was on all these topics.
As Redhead Kingpin states at the beginning of this clip, he Wanda Dee and Special Ed are filming this clip for the anniversary of Word Up and Rapmasters magazines. The thing that struck me in this clip was the lack of egos from the trio. It was just havin fun and no frontin.
Kwame and tat Money bust an impromptu acapella session well reminding all of us that they didn’t care what else was going on in the early 90’s hip hop scene.
Willie D…..the guy is one of a kind that is for sure. No one would ever confuse him for the greatest rapper alive, but dammit if he didn’t keep coming with solo records. I always felt that his best calling was as part of the Geto Boys, being in a group. I could always feel Willie’s uncomfortableness with Prince J’s decision to put him with Face and Bushwick. He did come to Rap-A-Lot as a solo artist after all. His verses were never philosophical, but rather to the point. D never messed with subtlety, he was more in your face. Check out this ode to the those who forgot who they really are.
S1W’s, Pre VH1 Flavor Flav & Ice Cube in a Raiders jacket. These youngsters today have no idea. My only regret is that Cube is in about 5 seconds total.
